I know my dad had problems, he had lost his job and started drinking heavy but I hated him for how he treated us. One day I came home from high school and the police was there and an ambulance. The police wouldn"t let me in even after I told them I lived there. One officer held me back when someone wheeled out my dad on a rolling cart, when they loaded him into the back of the ambulance I saw the attendant pull the sheet over his head. Just then mom came running out of the house to me, she wrapped her arms around me.
Later on I was told one of our neighbors heard crashing and yelling and they called the police, they came and my dad was so mad he got his gun and aimed it at me, the police had to shoot him.
Mom got a big insurance settlement and didn"t have to work so she stayed home. She had contacted the high school and asked what the proceedure was to home school me. They gave her the information on what to do. The courses weren"t hard for her to teach. She asked me what I thought about it. I told her I didn"t have any friends at high school so I wouldn"t miss going, I told her I thought it would be cool to let her teach me.
Time went by. I thought it was neat that mom wanted me around more. I guess even though dad was abusive, he was still company for her. It wasn"t until one night after I was finished taking a shower that I figured out the truth.
I had stepped out of the shower and dried off, tossed on a robe and started walking to my room at the end of the hallway. As I passed moms room I heard her crying. Her door was slightly ajar so I stood next to the opening.
