"Honey," I replied, "it will rain soon, Im sure it will -- it always does."
"Yeah," Thomas replied, "but it may be too little, to late for us, we will be lucky if we get 15 cents a bushel this season. How come you were so late getting back form town today anyway?"
"Well honey, I was shopping and I ran into Mary and we talked -- I did go buy tapes etc. to get the videos you wanted though."
"Oh, well thanks," he said, "which two did you get?"
"Well, the Beach Babes one was rented out so I got California Girls instead -- it sounded good."
"Yeah, I guess they are all about the same stuff anyway," said Thomas with a sigh. Married four years, we have had our ups and downs, and things do get tough when the weather is bad and things are not going well on the farm. I switched on the TV but nothing was on so I put a tape in the VCR while Thomas finished writing out the bills. I thought how wonderful things were when we had first met and how really nice our relationship had been, and I really did long for the hot passion of Thomass early lovemaking -- but I guess all good things must come to an end after a time.
For early fall it was a very cold evening, so I put a couple more mesquite logs on the fireplace -- they crackled and hissed, sending up thin sweet curls of smoke. Jake, one of our two full grown German Shepherds, got up and slowly began to lank away from the fireplace. King had already eaten his dinner and was in the kitchen, fast asleep.
"Honey, are you done?" I called, "You are going to miss the start of it."
"Just a sec," he said, "I can hear the sound from here."
"But you wont, you cant see the film," I replied.
"OK" said Thomas, "bring me a bowl of the popcorn you just made hon..."
